I have not blogged in so long on this page and I have no idea if anyone is listing to me or I am sending this message out to cyber space. Its been such a new life since I retired form doing triathlons. I am still very active with all sports, I just finished a full marathon on Catalina Island hardest race to date... well besides Wildflower. But.....

Enough about racing my past life.  I really am excited for my new steps in life as I have recently became a Master Massage Therapist with ASTECC  and I have completed Manual Lymph Drainage Therapy 1, 2 and 3.  I continue to work at one of the top 5 star resorts in the world The Fairmont Grand Del Mar.  This blog will really be about my studies with MLD and Massage along with just things about life I want to share my thoughts.  Writing soon bye for now.

Massage: The Best Recovery

We must consider has part of our training plan how important recovery is. I have been racing now for 3 years and have seen time and time again if I don't have my regular 2x a month massage I always have something go wrong during race season. No more!! The second I slack off with not getting massages I don't recover as well and seem to have to sit things out a lot longer.

Make sure you talk with your therapist about what it is you are trying to achieve in each session, tell them where it hurts and when it hurts during training. Also make sure the massage therapist you use knows how to work on athletes and when the proper time to massage is during race season. You do not want all of your hard work prior to a race to be wasted because you got a massage to close to your event. 4 days out is best and don't workout the same day you receive a massage, you want to get all the benefits you can from the body work.

Bosie Idaho Ironman 70.3

My first 70.3 was amazing! Lots of wonderful support around me people cheering for me on the course and off.

The race started at 2:00pm which was really nice I got to sleep in a bit and get my breakfast at a descent hour. I was smart and got a subway sandwich the day before so I could have it while I was waiting for T1 to open up at Lucky Peak Reservoir. It was a beautiful day for a race, the water was 60 degrees but still really cold because when I finally made it out of the water 45 minutes later my first few steps I could not feel my feet under me as I tried to run into T1. Finally though I made it to my bike with some help from the wetsuit strippers, that was nice!

As I get on "The Machine" I noticed I forgot to load up the Garmin, grrr. so I had to battle that for the first few peddles. OK, now I was ready as I head down for my first 2 mile hill and the wind was in full effect. As I came to a small climb I noticed my abductor muscles where giving me some trouble and it went on for 10 miles or so, until I hit the first aid station I grabbed some water then I got off my bike used the "Porta John" stretched and saddled up again ...this time ready to ride! mmmmm no, the wind was in high gear by this time and the bike was more like grinding due to the winds. The wind was crazy! I can't believe I got done with the bike in 3;23;00 with those winds. It was hard but all the hills I had trained on really prepared me for the heavy ride.

As I came down for my last few minutes on the bike I looked up and there in front of me was the capital building .. what a sight that was to be on a street that had no cars and me all alone gliding to the bike finish. I was so happy to get off the bike and run. All I could think now was take some breaths and run! I got into the run after a bush bathroom break and another stop to get the nettles out of my shoe from going into the bushes. After 3 miles I was feeling good, and I was running! I told myself to keep calm and get this done. I knew I was going to finish and I did. The last 3 miles of the run I had to adjust my strategy for nutrition I did drink some Gatorade, which I never do but it got me to the finish line and I was so overjoyed tears came down my face of joy. The nice volunteer made sure I was OK and down the shoot for my photo finish to see my friends greet me at the end! I was so glad to be done and happy, it was not till the next day I realized this was an amazing thing I had just completed and I can't even begin to tell you but this was on of the best events of my life!

I ran my first half marathon yesterday. Wow what an experince. all the people just running how funny, for fun.. I started with the 2:00 pace person at the start of the race he just got away, but I wanted to pace myself did not know really how to go faster but by mile 4 I had him and passed him. But mile 5 he passed me and he was off I just kept thinnking to myself you will finish and this is your race. I can tell you once I passed the pacer I felt the energy of the run speed up there was a difference between being infront of the 2:00 hr pacer and being behind him. I am happy I finished in 2:03:05 my next half marathon will be in Las Vagas and I do plan on being under 2:00hrs. NOW I know what I have gotten myself into.

WOW! I had so much fun, my first tri- was a blast. I started out strong and ended strong. I have to say I am holdong a 8th and 9th spot w30-34 so my next tri- I am going to take top three. this means I really have to do some serious training and get my zones down I think that will help.

I know some time during the race I was in Fifth but I new when I saw at least 4 girls pass me in my age group on the run I was com"in in some where in the top ten..... I did I finished 9th place very good for my fisrt triathalon. I really love this sport all the great people and just out right good for the soul...
